I have been walking my path for going on 6 years now, and up until this point had never met my totem.........

Last weekend we went camping and upon arriving at our campsite I found the gift of an owl feather that was left for me!! I was excited about finding this gift, but my excitement grew on Sunday night at work when I found a 2nd gift of an owl feather!!! I have been meditating on the feathers all week  to gain wisdom or receive messages from this wonderful creature. We went camping again for this Labor Day weekend.....I heard the owls calling back and forth to each other every night. Yesterday afternoon while performing self Reiki I heard the owl calling in the woods near our campsite. After I finished the Reiki, I decided to take a walk to see if I could find some good nature shots for photos.....you can't even imagine my excitement when I came upon my 3rd owl feather!!!! It really hadn't crossed my mind to look for another one so it was very exciting to find it!!!!

The following is a little information on the Owl totem:

Owls, which have been called cats with wings, are the silent hunters of the night. Their downy feathers and the front edge of their wings have a fringe which silences their flight. The wings are substantially bigger than their actual body making their slow smooth flight all the easier.

These birds also have a third eyelid which moves from side to side to clean their vision. An owl's eyes are fixed in the socket, however to be able to see all around, their incredibly flexible necks can rotate 270 degrees in any direction. An owl's vision and hearing work harmoniously enabling them to eat their body weight on a daily basis.

Owls know when to move silently and when to be still, which makes them the keepers of secrets. These solitary birds don't feel the need to proclaim their presence to anyone until the timing is right. Owl comes to us when we need to open our eyes, and study the situation at hand. If we watch and listen with our inner selves we can figure out what is happening behind the scenes, and confront those who are trying to deceive us at the appropriate time.

    OW L MEDICINE

Owl medicine is a feminine trait and is symbolically associated with clairvoyance, astral projection and magic.  Since time immemorial, humanity has been afraid of the night, the dark and the unseen - waiting fearfully for the first crack of morning light.  Conversely, night is Owl's friend.  It has great awareness of all that is around it at all times.  It has predator vision, which means it sees clearly what it looks at.  It has great intuition, and the courage to follow its instincts.  It is a meat eater, which means it can be a fierce warrior if challenged, or if something dear to it is threatened.  Owl can see in the dark and with sensitive hearing can accurately pinpoint and identify any sound or movement.  If you have Owl medicine, these night birds will have a tendency to collect around you, even in the daytime because they recognize a kinship with you.  In many cultures Owl is a symbol for wisdom.  This is because Owl can see that which others cannot, which is the essence of true wisdom.  Where others are deceived, Owl sees and knows what is there.  Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, had a companion Owl on her shoulder which revealed unseen truths to her.  Owl had the ability to light up Athena's blind side enabling her to speak the whole truth, as opposed to only a half truth.  If Owl is your personal medicine no one can deceive you about what they are doing no matter how they try to disguise or hide it from you.  You may be a little frightening to be around since so many people have ulterior motives which you see right through.  Owl medicine people know more about an individuals inner life than that person knows about themselves.  Owl medicine is wonderful to have.  Those who carry it cannot be conned because their vision shows them the truth of the situation.

    Gratitude Alpahabet

Monday, August 11, 2008, 09:28 PM EST [General]

When you need a little boost of positive energy, try doing this affirmation.....starting with 'A'....(as quickly as you can!) ...and going through 'Z'.....name something in your life that you are grateful for that begins with each letter of the alphabet!!

I was doing this (for the 3rd time in a row!!!) at work last night.....my box cutter slipped and cut my inner forearm.....I had to get 7 stitches, but I'm 'GRATEFUL' it didn't hit a major artery or vein, or do any damage to muscles, tendons, etc!!

    Goddess Bless......

    "The Goddess Companion" ~August 11

Monday, August 11, 2008, 09:17 PM EST [General]

    ~August 11~

Night, driven away, yields her place to Dawn.
Here she comes, the white one, with her shining calf.
One, then the other; one, then the other; always they move,
one after the other, two sisters on the same path.
They never meet, nor stand to talk together,
but they are similar, though seeming different.
                                         -----Indian Rig Veda

The light is diminishing, although in most places almost imperceptibly. since the year's longest day, the summer solstice, many weeks have passed; the point of balance, the equinox, is coming soon. At the height of summer, a memory of winter intrudes. Why think of it now? Why not just languish in the heat and the brightness, pretending that nothing will ever change?
But life is nothing but change. Even as we enjoy the sultry weather of late summer, the clock ticks toward the next season. Awareness of time's passage need not interfere with our appreciation of the moment at hand. In fact, the more aware we are of how temporary each pleasure, each sensation, is, the more we will take time to truly drink it in. Iced tea on a summer's night, the blink of fireflies against dark leaves, the fragrance of late flowers and ripening fruit--all the sensuous delights of summer are coming to a close. Day's sister night is gathering her forces. Enjoy the day as it passes.

DAILY MEDIATIONS ON THE FEMININE SPIRIT

    AUGUST 10

Love is awake in me whatever the season.

Love is a north wind, cold and sharp.

Love is a night on fire with lightning.

    Love is shameless, violent, heart-rending.

Love is the maddness sent by the Goddess.

---------Sicilian Greek poet Ibykos, sixth century B.C.E.

Humans are rare among mammals in that we are always ready for love. Unlike our animal relatives, human females do not have special seasons of estrus. Scientists speculate about why this distinction came about, some believing that the length of time a human baby must be nurtured gave rise to a need to bond us more tightly together. And sexual pleasure is, indeed, a great compelling bond.

This human biological trait is both a blessing and a curse. It is a blessing, because we are able to bond with each other beyond the sheer physical need for release. But love can also feel like a curse, as the poet Ibykos reminds us, because it opens us up to change. Love can overturn our lives as easily as a child overturns a wagon of toys, which is why the love goddess' child, Eros or Cupid, is pictured so wanton and careless of our lives. Yet without its beauty, what would our lives be worth?
